The Crusade for Christ started in Chicago when a group of ministers convened to discuss techniques that would consolidate and strengthen the efforts of the local congregations. The Crusade for Christ started in Chicago when a group of ministers convened to discuss techniques that would consolidate and strengthen the efforts of the local congregations. To this end, the group concluded that a major evangelistic campaign would meet their objectives.Dr. Daniel Harrison was chosen to orchestrate and lead this movement. Thus, the Crusade for Christ was born.As Dr. Harrison embarked upon this endeavor, he soon realized that this effort would dominate his total being. To meet the impending challenges, he had to draw upon his professional training in organizational development and communication. These skills, along with the support and prayers of the Chicago ministers and their congregations, became his greatest assets. The Crusade’s basic philosophy is centered around holistic evangelism. The founders believed that if Christians, in the faith, nationwide, came together, many amazing things would materialize. They all worked tirelessly, as a spiritual army, to actualize this reality. In 1979, the onset of the dream came to fruition as 3,000+ Christians convened at the McCormick Place Convention Center on the scenic lakefront of Chicago, IL. The dynamic preaching of evangelist G.P. Holt caused many to reevaluate themselves and their institutionalized religion. Above all, 150 souls were added to the body of Christ. From coast to coast, the Crusade for Christ has produced some extraordinary results, evidenced by the success of past crusades in: Chicago, IL; Houston, TX; Orlando, FL; San Francisco, CA; New Orleans, LA; Detroit, MI; Los Angeles, CA; Atlanta, GA; Indianapolis, IN; Houston, TX, Chicago, IL, Birmingham, AL, Dallas, TX, Tampa, FL, Kansas City, MO, and now in August-September 2011 in Washington, D.C.In Los Angeles, the Crusade spearheaded a massive food drive; and thereby, passing out spiritual and physical food to the less fortunate. In addition, the eloquent orations of Dr. Jack Evans, which were televised nationwide, generated hundreds of religious questions from viewers. The Crusade for Christ serves under the visionary and astute Eldership of the South Union Church of Christ in Houston, TX: Brothers Leonard Davis, John Ellis and Freddy Holland. The Crusade, a phenomenal success, epitomizes Ephesians 4:12 “…for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.” Through the electronic and print media, we possess the ability to “…go out into all the world and teach all nations…”– Dr. Evans’ messages have reached 10 million via cable network. – Church of Christ literature including tracks have been disseminated throughout the country.– More than 3,500 door to door contacts are made per Crusade. – Hundreds receive personal and spiritual counseling. – Nightly services are broadcast on several local radio stations. – The founders remain steadfast in their belief that“I (we) can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me (us)”… Philippians 4:13.
